Don’t worry, it might not be a bad thing

Are you the type to go on a shopping spree and buy tons of books that interests you even though you already have a lot of unread books in your house? Well, I am guilty of that. I probably read less than 50% of the books on my bookshelves but I just can’t resist the urge of buying more books. At this point, I don’t even know whether would I be able to finish my entire library before I die, but that’s alright. If you are like me, don’t feel guilty about it and I will tell you why below.

Helps to keep you humble

Looking at all the books lying in your bookshelves untouched helps to keep you grounded and humble. It reflects and serves a powerful reminder of your limitations, the vast quantity of things you don’t know, think you knew, half-know or will one day realize you are wrong about. Despite that, don’t fret, knowing that you don’t know much at all actually sets you apart from many others. This is due to a cognitive bias called Dunning-Kruger Effect.

In layman's terms, it is a bias where the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know, and the moment you realize that you don’t know a lot of things is the moment where you will constantly seek to gain knowledge and become more humble.
